IEEE CASS Guangzhou and Shikoku Chapters Joint Workshop on Circuits and Systems (GSCAS'16) in Guangzhou, China
The First IEEE CASS Guangzhou and Shikoku Chapters Joint Workshop on Circuits and Systems (GSCAS'16) was held during July 14-16, 2016, at South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China.
The objective of the workshop is first to build bridge of friendship between IEEE CASS Guangzhou and Shikoku Chapters and to give young teachers and students several opportunities to experience international activity. The workshop program covers topics in a variety of areas of circuits and systems.
The workshop was started with opening address by Prof. Xiangmin Xu (South China Univ. Tech., China). At the beginning of the workshop, a brief introduction of Shikoku Chapter was explained by Prof. Yoshifumi Nishio (Tokushima Univ., Japan).
There are two oral presentation sessions. At the first session, the program is organized by three talks; “Estimating the Gene Regulatory Network Using Neural Network” by Prof. Hiroaki Kurokawa (Tokyo Univ. Tech., Japan), “A Near Real-Time 3D Elastography System Based on Linear Mechanical Scanning” by Prof. Qinghua Huang (South China Univ. Tech., China) and “Synchronization in Frustrated Coupled Oscillatory Systems” by Dr. Yoko Uwate (Tokushima Univ., Japan). The program of the second session is also organized by three talks; “Haze Concentration Estimation and Optimization” by Mr. Bolun Cai (South China Univ. Tech., China), “Chaos and its Applications” by Prof. Yoshifumi Nishio (Tokushima Univ., Japan) and “Convolutional Neural Networks” by Ms. Suo Qiu (South China Univ. Tech., China). Participants were listening intently to these talks presenting their latest research topics. Also during the any kinds of sessions, participants had fruitful discussions.
In the afternoon, 10 students from South China Univ. Tech. and Tokushima Univ. presented their posters at poster session. They conducted the active discussions about their research topics even if their study topics are not completely overlapped.
WiCAS/YP session was programmed at the end of the workshop. First, Dr. Uwate explained about WiCAS (Women in CAS) activity and how to find carrier paths efficiency. Then, Ph.D student Mr. Wang from Xi’an Jiaotong Univ. talked his international experience during the summer school in Japan. This session was very fruitful for young students to know that there are chances to have international experience through several kinds of activities.
In the symposium banquet, Chinese foods, drinks and desserts were waiting for us. We had the great time with friendly atmosphere. After that we enjoyed the night view of Guangzhou city by taking the river cruiser.
It was really nice workshop to communicate with two chapters face to face as the first step. Also, it was good opportunity to experience international activity for young researchers and student through the workshop events.
First GSCAS 2016 has achieved great success.
The next GSCAS is scheduled to be held next year.
