International Forum on New Frontiers in IC Design at Shanghai Jiao Tong University
On October 20th, 2018, the IEEE CAS Shanghai Chapter and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) hosted the International Forum on New Frontiers in IC Design. The cool Shanghainese autumn weather was the perfect setting for an afternoon pack with discussions on state-of-the-art technology, and also a great welcome gift to the honored guests: Prof. David Allstot and Prof. Gabor Temes, both from the Oregon State University and Distinguished Lecturers of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS).
The highlights of the event were the lectures “Switched-Capacitor Circuits: From Maxwell to the Internet of Things”, by Prof. Allstot and “Noise Filtering and Linearization of Single-Ended Circuits” by Prof. Temes, where they reviewed the history of integrated circuit design, and provided their view on what the future may bring to this field.
The auditorium of SJTU’s Microelectronics Building was filled, with a large audience of students and faculty from several universities of the Shanghai area and elsewhere in China, as well as members of the industry. Such a large audience exceeded the expectations of the organizing team, led by Prof. Jianjun Zhou of the Center for Analog and RF IC (SJTU-CARFIC), chair of the event.
This year’s International Forum on New Frontiers in IC Design is in line with an SJTU tradition of hosting lectures from distinguished and award-winning professors and researchers from around the globe, in partnership with professional and academic associations such as IEEE-CAS.
“One of the largest cities in China, Shanghai has a long history in the IC design world, both in academia and industry. As we have done for more than 10 years, it is our commitment at the CAS Shanghai Chapter to promote events like this, bringing together the top researchers and professionals, from all corners of the world, and our local community”, said Prof. Peilin Liu, chair of the IEEE CAS Shanghai Chapter.
