IEEE CASS Shikoku and Shanghai Chapters Joined Hands to Organize “Joint Workshop on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems (SSJW2008)”

The second international joint workshop of CASS Shikoku and Shanghai Chapters, IEEE CASS Shikoku and Shanghai Chapters Joint Workshop on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems (SSJW 2008), was held on August 4-5, at the Kagawa Campus of Tokushima Bunri University, Shikoku, Japan. This workshop aims to stimulate the chapters' activities as well as to provide a forum for exchange of the latest research results on nonlinear circuits and systems. Two keynote lectures included “Applications of Complex Networks” with a variety of interesting examples by Prof. Chi K. Tse of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and “A CNN Learning Algorithm” with an application to data-mining by Prof. Mamoru Tanaka of Sophia University. The program was further enriched by several invited talks by Prof. Akio Ushida of Tokushima Bunri University, and Prof. Chen He, Prof. Lingge Jiang and Prof. Di He of Shanghai Jiaotong University. Selected papers were presented in the workshop along with a full session of poster presentations.

The SSJW Committee organized student awards with a support of the IEEE CASS Region 10. The following 2 students were awarded the SSJW'08 Best Student Paper Awards. Takefumi Konishi (Sophia University), “Image Resolution Enhancement Using Discrete-Time Cellular Neural Network With Interpolation Error Theorem”
Tomoko Yamada (Shikoku University), “Comparison of Switching Phenomena Between a Chaotic Map and a Chaotic Circuit” The following three students won the SSJW'08 Best Student Poster Presentation Awards. Akihisa Tamura (Tokushima University)

The success of the workshop owes much to the dedicated team of organizers led by Prof. Akio Ushida and Prof. Chen He, who served as General Co-Chairs; Prof. Tetsuo Tada and Prof. Lingge Jiang who served as Technical Co-Chairs; Prof. Yoshifumi Nishio and Prof. Di He who served as the Secretaries; Prof. Yuichi Tanji and Prof. Tetsushi Ueta who served as Publicity Chair and Publication Chair respectively.
