WORKSHOP NEWS
IEEE IWCSN in Vancouver 2013
Starting 2013, the International Workshop on Complex Systems and Networks (IWCSN) will officially be run under the auspice of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, and hence is re-titled as the
IEEE International Workshop on Complex Systems and Networks (IEEE IWCSN). The support of IEEE is particularly meaningful at this 10th anniversary of the workshop formation as the effort and contribution of the workshop organizers over the past decade have been officially recognized by the IEEE. In particular, the workshop has played an important role in promoting complex systems and networks research within our society, and participants over the past decade have pioneered the development of this field. Thanks to the efforts of Ljiljana Trajkovic of Simon Fraser University, the official sponsorship of the IEEE will ensure financial sustainability of the workshop in the future, and hence a more long-term plan for the
workshop is now possible. During the 2013 meeting in Vancouver, the locations of the next three workshops have been decided. Shanghai, Perth and Atlanta will host IEEE IWCSN in 2014, 2015 and 2016, respectively, thanks to the enthusiastic support of Xiaofan Wang of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Michael Small of University of Western Australia, and Igor Belykh of Georgia State University.
This year’s workshop in Vancouver was a great success! The workshop invited 15 leading researchers of the field to present their latest research results and ideas, and attracted participants from various parts of the world including USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Mexico and Spain. This year’s workshop has focused on network topologies, control, growth, dynamics, synchronization and applications. The detailed workshop program, talks’ abstracts and presentation slides are available in
http://iwcsn2013.eie.polyu.edu.hk/Program.html. Each presentation lasted for one full hour, giving ample time for participan
ts to discuss and comment on the presented work. Apart from the official workshop dinner held at the Delta Hotels and Resorts, a casual farewell dinner was self organized by the participants at the end of the workshop for sharing of ideas and renewal of friendship. All participants had enjoyed the warm hospitality extended by the workshop host, Prof. Ljiljana Trajkovic of Simon Fraser University, despite the relatively cold weather in Vancouver!
The next workshop will be in Shanghai. For more information of the workshop, please see http://iwcsn.eie.polyu.edu.hk.
