Call for Officer Nominations for the Term 2016-2017
Each year, the members of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) elect several members of the Executive Committee to serve the Society starting at the beginning of the following year. This year we are electing members for the following officer positions. The persons elected to these positions will serve the Society for the 2016-2017 term:
•Vice President Conferences
•Vice President Technical Activities
•Vice President Regional and Membership Activities
•President Elect (Will serve as President Elect 2016-2017, President 2018-2019, Past President 2020-2021)
Descriptions of the duties of these officers and eligibility criteria can be found in the CASS Constitution and Bylaws.
CASS is a volunteer-based organization. It is essential that we elect energetic and engaged leaders who will organize activities that will meet your needs and who will guide our Society into the future. As a CASS member, you are in an excellent position to know the strengths of your fellow members and how they can best serve our Society. Complete candidate nominations must be received by close of business (5:00 pm EDT) on September 1, 2015 in order to be considered.
Nomination Process
Nominations may be submitted by any CASS member. The slate is determined by the Nominations Committee, which may place nominated candidates on the ballot at its discretion.
A candidate has the option to be nominated by petition. According to IEEE rules, a candidate with a valid nomination by petition is guaranteed to be on the ballot. In this case, 194 signatures would be needed on the petition. Note: Signatures from student members and affiliate members are not allowed. Graduate student members are eligible to sign a petition as well as vote in the election. If a candidate requests to be nominated by petition, an address pointing to a web-based petitioning system that will automatically authenticate petition “signatures”, will be placed on the CASS home page.
Nominators should indicate if the name of the nominated candidate is to be placed on the petition site for collecting petitions or if the nomination is meant for consideration by the Nominations Committee. Please note that the option of nomination by petition is not advised by the Nominations Committee. The Nominations Committee will place all nominated candidates on the slate unless a candidate is not eligible for election.
Nomination Documents
A complete nomination must include all items indicated by an asterisk in the nomination form below. These items include data for the Candidate and the Nominator, a Candidate Position Statement (limited to 700 words), answers to five questions (limited to 100 words for each answer), a Candidate Biography (limited to 350 words), and a Candidate Photo.
Nomination Submission
The Nomination Form found below must be submitted by September 1, 2015 through the CASS website to Thanos Stouraitis, Chair of the CASS Nominations Committee.
The Nominations Committee greatly encourages you to recommend suitable candidates for these elections. Our strength as a society is not only in our engineering expertise, but also in our societal spirit including the sharing of information with each other. This we can do best when we have a strong organization with engaged members.

Call for Outreach Proposals in Latin America and China 2015
The IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) has reserved funds for specific regions to participate in a Call for Proposals for the CASS Outreach Initiative. We will be accepting proposals from both China and Latin America. This call is now open for all members, Chapters, or Committees in either Latin America or China to seek funding to support events/activities to be completed by the end of December 2015 (please note funding cannot be transferred to next year if unspent). Please use the online form specific to your region to submit all required information:
China: http://ieee-cas.org/ieee-cass-outreach-initiative-2015-china-call-for-proposals
Latin America: http://ieee-cas.org/ieee-cass-outreach-initiative-2015-latin-america-call-for-proposals”.
Examples of activities and events funded in previous Outreach calls can be found on the Financial Activities page.
All proposals must be received by no later than 30th August 2015. All proposals will then be evaluated and ranked by the BoG Financial Activities division and funding will be allocated accordingly.
Please notice that we cannot support research proposals or acquisition of equipment or hiring of support staff. Also, please note that if the proposal is funded, the funds must be sent to an IEEE Entity (Section, Chapter, etc.) bank account. Funds cannot be sent directly to individuals per IEEE restrictions. Also, a one page leaflet (call for Papers style) promoting the event will be due at least 3 weeks in advance of the Outreach event for distribution to the CAS members. Moreover, we ask you to write immediately after the event a mini article (journalist style, one page or so) that describes the event, gives information on the participation and briefly indicates the technical aims. Color pictures or video (good quality) are recommended.
For further information or any questions feel free to contact the VP-Financial Activities, Eduard Alarcon at eduard.alarcon@upc.edu or the CAS Administrator, Brittian Gimbel at manager@ieee-cas.org.
