OJCAS Special Section on CAS for Flexible Electronics

Extended Submission Deadline: 21 June 2021

Flexible electronics have a huge growth potential in many applications ranging from wearables, smartphones, robots to entertainment, automotive, healthcare, and more. According to ReportLinker’s recent report, the global flexible electronics market will reach $22.6 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 17% over the next seven years. This growth is further fueled by the rapid development of the Internet-of-Things, 5G, and artificial intelligence, where sensors for data collection are essential. While novel devices and printing technologies provide the basic components and manufacturing process for flexible electronics, it is the innovation in circuits and systems that brings flexible sensors, interfacing circuits, embedded artificial intelligence, wireless communications, energy harvesting, and wireless power transfer together to form a complete flexible system. Flexible electronics opens a new field for the CAS community to apply low power circuit techniques, design tools and methodologies, computationally efficient algorithms, and many more to tackle the challenges in making flexible systems.

The purpose of this OJCAS Special Section is to report the recent progress in circuits and systems for the emerging field of flexible electronics. Manuscripts describing original research as well as reviews of emerging directions are solicited for this Special Section.

The range of topics includes, but is not limited to:

  • Circuits for flexible electronics
  • System architecture for extreme, low power flexible electronics
  • Energy-efficient signal processing algorithms for flexible electronics
  • Embedded AI for flexible electronics
  • Flexible energy harvesting devices and circuits
  • Wireless power transfer for flexible electronics
  • Flexible heterogeneous/hybrid integration
  • Skin-electrode interference in flexible wearables
  • Wearable/implantable healthcare devices
  • Applications of flexible electronics

To be considered within the OJCAS scope, submissions must demonstrate synergies between circuits, algorithms, and systems.

Important Dates

  • Submission deadline: 7 June 2021
  • First decision: 12 July 2021
  • Revision due: 2 August 2021
  • Final decision: 6 September 2021
  • Online publication: December 2021

Instructions for Authors

Manuscripts must be submitted online using the IEEE OJCAS Manuscript Template via Manuscript Central. During submission, the answer to question “Type” in Step 1 of the submission process, is “Flexible Electronics Special Issue”.
