First IEEE GeronCAS 2020 Hybrid Workshop
On the noon of 10th December 2020, the organizing committees arranged the 1st IEEE Circuit and Systems for Older Adults’ Well-being (GeronCAS) Hybrid Workshop event at Le Meridien Hotel, Putrajaya, Malaysia. All the speakers and forum panelists registered and tested their audio and presentation slides remotely on the virtual platform (Zoom Webinar) at 1:45 pm. The event started at 2:00 pm with a welcome speech from Fakhrul Zaman Rokhani, GeronCAS 2020 general co-chair, and raised the awareness of world population ageing and highlighted the goal of the GeronCAS workshop. The speech continued with remarks given by Amara Amara, President of CASS. Next, the professor from the University of Malaya, Tan Maw Pin gave a keynote speech about “Technology and Falls in Older Adults”. After the keynote address, three (3) lecture sessions were conducted by Mayumi Nomura from Healthcare Research Inc. Japan, Tsukasa Funane from Hitachi Ltd. Japan, and Yeh-Liang Hsu from Yuan Ze University in Taiwan on the titles of “Lifestyle Sensing using IoT”, “Development of Brain-body-dynamics Sensing Systems for Older Adults’ Well-being”, and “Gerontechnology Landscape and Opportunities”, respectively.

Then, the talk continued with CASS Singapore Chapter chair Lee Jun Wei, which gave an exciting talk on the activities organized by the CASS Singapore chapter in the past years to attract more members to join CAS society. A short, interactive quiz session for all the attendees were conducted after that. The top three winners of the quiz session were given free CASS membership for the year 2021. At 4:00 pm, a forum session, which discussed “How Circuit and Systems fit in Precision Ageing, Empowering Older Adults Towards Successful Ageing”, was moderated by the director of MyAgeingTM Malaysia, Siti Anom Ahmad. The forum panelists include Yehea Ismail from American University in Cairo, Egypt, Esther Gunaseli M.Ebenezer from UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak, Malaysia, and Mohammad Al-Amri from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.

After the forum session, a virtual recognition was presented to all the honored speakers and panelists in joining this event and followed by announcing the top three quiz winners. The event ended with the closing remarks from CASS Malaysia chapter chair Tang Tong Boon at 5:00 pm

WICAS SEA International Women’s Day Webinar 2021
The IEEE WICAS Southeast Asia International Women’s Day Webinar 2021 was conducted virtually on Sunday, 28 March 2021 from 10.00-12.00 GMT+8. The webinar was held to commemorate international women’s day and to encourage stronger female participation in IEEE CASS, as well as in engineering leadership, especially in Southeast Asia. The event was attended by 41 participants from around Asia (based on the attendance form) and was also livecasted through IEEE Indonesia’s Youtube Channel. The youtube video has attracted 141 views at the time of writing.

The event was kickstarted by opening remarks from Prof. Yoko Uwate, as WiCAS Chair, and Prof. Fakhrul Zaman Rokhani as IEEE CAS SEA Ambassador. The main event consisted of three talks from four women engineers. The first, Dr. Rowena C. L. Guevara from the University of the Philippinesand DOST Philippines talked about the role of women engineers in the government, as well as the contribution of the women engineers in the Philippines in mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemics. The second speaker,Dr. Estelle Wang from Continental Automotive Singapore, talked about building a career and challenges in the career as a woman engineer. The third speaker, Dr. Maryam from Universiti Putra Malaysia talked about the key challenges and opportunity as women engineers. Finally, the last session was filled by Dr. Yoke Irawan and Dr. Allya Koesoema from IEEE SIGHT Indonesia talked about the role of women engineers in humanitarian technologies. Each of the talks were followed by a short discussion session. After the talk, the floor was opened for a discussion panel session moderated by Dr. Lini Lee, in which there was a lively discussion between the panel and audience.

After the panel session, a virtual recognition was presented to all the honored speakers and panelists in joining this event. The event was closed by the reading of challenges as a woman engineer submitted by participants, and the announcement of 7 winners of CASS membership.
