As we reach the end of a remarkable year for the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and the conclusion of my term as President, I would like to extend my best wishes for the year-end Holidays and the New Year 2026.

I am deeply committed to the vision and mission of our Society, particularly its goals of promoting research excellence, fostering an interdisciplinary community within the CAS Society, and upholding shared values. We must continue to collaborate with our sister Societies and Councils, as well as our industrial partners, to ensure that technological development is centred on service to humanity and adheres to the IEEE Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

Increase CASS Membership, CAS Chapters, and Student Branch Chapters

This year, we have witnessed significant increases in membership, the number of Chapters, and the number of Student Branch Chapters (SBC), as shown below.

  • The total number of CAS Society members was 19,851 in Dec. 2025, an increase from 14,154 in Dec. 2023 (a 40% increase).
  • The total number of CAS Society chapters is now 137 in 2025 (from 126 in 2023, 9% increase), and the number of student branch chapters (SBC) is now 203 in 2025 (from 117 in 2023, 74% increase).

Improvement in our Journal Impact Factors

After many years in the second quartile (Q2) of the Journal Citation Reports, both of our leading journals (TCAS-I and TCAS-II) and TBioCAS have now achieved top-quartile (Q1) status. JCR places TCSVT 14th out of 366 IEEE journals (including Springer-Nature, Elsevier, etc.) in 2025.

Revised IEEE Fellow Evaluation Process

We have revised our CAS Society Fellow Committee Bylaws to emphasize the significance of technical contributions to the field of circuits and systems in the evaluation process for IEEE Fellows. These updated bylaws ensure that our CAS Society members have greater opportunities to be elevated to IEEE Fellow, further demonstrating our commitment to recognizing significant achievements within our Society.

A New VP-Industry Position

As the President-Elect in 2022, I initiated the establishment of a new VP-Industry position with the approval of IEEE. Rajiv Joshi of IBM was elected to the first VP-Industry. This new role aims to promote our Society within the industry, recruit more industry members globally, and foster industrial engagement within our Society.

A New Machine-Learning Circuits and Systems (MLCAS) TC

To meet the demand for emerging technologies, we established a new technical committee (TC): the Machine-Learning Circuits and Systems (MLCAS). The MLCAS organizes dedicated paper tracks at ISCAS conferences and encourages submissions to ISCAS, AICAS, and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Artificial Intelligence (TCASAI).

Society’s 75th Anniversary Milestone and Expanded Global Learning Reach

In 2024, we marked the Society’s 75th anniversary, engaging over 12,000 participants worldwide through global activities. Across 2024–2025, we scaled the microlearning platform to 4,000+ users in 150+ countries, delivered a 400% increase in CASS Resource Center content versus 2023, and launched the Industry DLP program for industry members.

As a team, our Vice Presidents and Board of Governors Members have performed their duties exceptionally well. As the President of the IEEE CAS Society for 2024-2025, I sincerely thank our dedicated members, diligent volunteers, and visionary past Presidents.

I am confident that my colleague Andy Wu, who will take office as President in January 2026, will lead our Society with dedication and help shape an even stronger future for CASS.

Wishing you a wonderful Holiday Season and a joyful, healthy, and Happy New Year 2026 for you and your families.

Myung Hoon Sunwoo
IEEE CASS President 2024-2025
